The subject of Ireland’s disappeared is the inspiration behind Vanished – a novel by Dundalk teacher Susan McGovern.
Vanished tells the story of 18 year-old Lucinda Gray a quiet unassuming girl who has always blended into the background. One day in April 1975, the entire community of the leafy Dublin suburb, Dun Laoghaire, is shocked and baffled at her sudden disappearance. What could have happened in a seemingly uneventful life to make her vanish, as if into thin air? What happened in the days, months and years after her disappearance?
Vanished was launched on Wednesday 7th October, in the County Museum Dundalk, by Senator Mary Moran.
The novel is another addition to PubliBook Ireland. “This novel is a wonderful achievement for Susan and we are so proud of her, Susan has chosen a very emotive subject for her book and has crafted and written her novel with care and respect for those families still going through the heartache of searching for a missing loved one.”
“I began this novel shortly after joining Brenda’s classes and found it very easy to keep writing with her and my fellow writers’ encouragement,” says Susan.
Susan is already working on her next project – a children’s book – entitled: The She Team. Susan was born, raised and educated in Dublin, obtaining a Science degree in Trinity College. She taught for thirty-five years in Dublin, Achill and Dundalk and on her retirement took up writing and lives in Dundalk, Ireland. Vanished is her first novel.
